Cross over, and take the waymarked footpath up through the woods, joining a wider track. The village of Lichtenberg is on the hill ahead, and the houses below form the hamlet of Picardie. The track climbs into woods and rises up behind Picardie, passes the end of a road, and curves downhill to a junction. Follow the sign left into Lichtenberg. There is a drinking water point outside the gîte.

At a T-junction just beyond the village square, a short diversion to the left leads to Lichtenberg Castle. The GR53 turns right, then left along Rue du Vogelhardt. Continue as the path drops down fairly steeply and skirts a deep valley to emerge onto a country road. Turn right, but only briefly, then left at a sign to Wimmenau.

The path crosses a vehicle track, then drops down to join a more major track on the right. Carry straight on, but look out for the next junction. Not far along the track the GR53 leaves to the right along a small footpath through open pine woodland. Follow this as it merges with another path and soon leads out onto a road. Turn left here, but after a few hundred metres a GR sign points along the first track to the right.
