One extremely popular route is the Gran Paradiso summit, its attraction augmented by the fact it is the one and only above-4000m peak wholly within Italian territory. A mixed rock and ice climb, it is best tackled with the assistance of a qualified local guide who can recommend further excursions suited to your experience and capabilities.
